Boston Kayaker

Kayaking on Wood River - from Hope Valley RI to Woodville RI

Rating: Two Stars - Unspoiled and mostly pristine river. I paddled this route May 2013 when the leaves are still coming out. Lots of downed trees but most of them have pass-thrus. I have to get of my kayak twice once to slide my kayak over the trees and the second time to portage on right about 20 feet around the trees.

  Put in at Switch Road
  in Hope Valley RI.
Take out at Woodville
  Road in Woodville RI.
Estimated distance
  = 3.5 miles
Woodville
  Dam
May portage around
  downed trees.

At the Switch Road launch to Wood River in Hope Valley RI.
Trip date is May 2013.

The Boston Kayaker just launched on Wood River from the Swich Road Landing.

I had my son wait for me on the bridge just south of the launch.

This obstacle will turn out to be un-runnable.

Stuck.

Have to get out of my kayak and pull/push it over the trees.

Back on the water.

These set of strainers is impassable. Have to beach and portage my kayak around.

Ready to launch again past the trees.

Colorful underwater plants.

Another kayaker.

Wood River is becoming wider and pond-like.

Abutments of a bridge that was.

I can now see the bridge and hear the dam.

Landed just before the Woodville Dam.
