Kayaking on Spectacle Pond - in Littleton MA

Rating: One Star - A smallish pond named after its spectacle shape, with a side trip to Bennetts Brook. The shores are dotted with houses but into the brook will give you wilderness feel.

At Spectacle Pond on Route 119 in Littleton MA.
Trip date is August 2014.

The launch area into Spectacle Pond is on the southeast side of the Route 119 bridge.

The put in is at the end of a steep gravel ramp.

The Spectacle Pond outlet dam is right next to the put in.

The Boston Kayaker just launched on Spectacle Pond in Littleton MA.

The main body of Spectacle Pond is not visible from the put in.

A train passing by . . .

Now I can see Spectacle Pond.

Just entered Spectacle Pond coming from the launch outlet.

I will veer to my right and paddle a counter-clockwise circle over Spectacle Pond.

Now close to the northern shore on my right, will continue my westward direction.

Waterlilies on Spectacle Pond.

Looking to my right, the northern shore of the first spectacle.

Approaching the narrow passage between the two "spectacles".

I see a cluster of turtles.

All these turtles scamper off moments after taking this photo.

Now at the passage in between the "spectacles".

Just entered the second (eastern) "spectacle".

Veering to my right to approach the northern shore.

Continuing my westward paddle . . .

Nearing the western end of Spectacle Pond.

A couple of kayakers on Spectacle Pond.

In front of me is the western shore of Spectacle Pond.

Getting into the Bennetts Brook inlet.

On Bennetts Brook inlet.

At this point, the brook is becoming too narrow and shallow.

Turning around . . . I see this birdhouse.

Now paddling back with the flow back to Spectacle Pond.

Approaching Spectacle Pond.

Now entering Spectacle Pond from Bennetts Brook.

Veering to my right to get near the southern coast.

About to pass thru the narrow channel between the spectacles.

Now into the eastern spectacle.

The take out is at the outlet to the right of those power poles.
