Kayaking on Saco River - from Buxton ME to Hollis ME Rating: Two-and-a-Half Stars - This is a quiet water route with tree-lined shores all the way. Saco River was wide and mildly flowing perfect for families or beginners. It rained for 10 minutes or so and we sheltered on the bank under the trees. Paddle time was 1 hour 40 minutes.   Put in at Route 112 / River   Road in Buxton ME. Take out at Route 4A / Bar   Mills Road in Hollis ME. Today's kayak buddy is the Boston Kayaker's wife. Sign on the tree reads: "DANGER Water May Rise Rapidly" Trip date is July 2017. Looking upstream from the put in, the Route 112 bridge over the Saco River. Below and behind the bridge is the Buxton Dam. At this point, water still rushing from the bottom of the dam. Launching into Saco River. The Boston Kayaker just launched into the Saco River in Buxton ME. Looking to my left from the launch, the Route 112 bridge. Paddling with the flow for a one-way trip on Saco River to the top of the Bar Mills Dam. A couple of guys fishing from a canoe on Saco River. A couple getting into the Saco River. Power lines over the Saco River. A small inlet on the right. River front house. Dark clouds coming . . . It's raining and we decided to shelter on the banks under the trees. About 10 minutes and the rain has moved on and we're back paddling. A turtle on a log. Another inlet on right. A guy cutting grass on his backyard. Approaching an island in the middle of Saco River. We will paddle to the right of the island. A bridge no more on Saco River. We are near the end of our kayak trip. Take out is behind that tree. We can see the orange buoys marking the Bar Mills Dam.
