Kayaking on Upper Mystic Lake and Aberjona River - in Medford MA Rating: Two-and-a-Half Stars - Beautiful paddle we as we chased the source of the lake up the Aberjona River to the dam. Lots of sailing boat plying the lake and stand-up paddlers. Good lake/river trip combination. Paddling time was 1 hour 40 minutes for the roundtrip.   Put in at Mystic Valley Parkway   in Medford MA. Paddle upstream on Aberjona   River and return. Trip date is September 2024. The Boston Kayaker just launched on Upper Mystic Lake. Beside the ramp is the Bacow Sailing Pavilion. Today's kayak buddies are my nephew on the other kayak and my dogs Saco and Sebec with me. Perfect weather temperature about high 70sF. Veering to my right, will paddle north. The Boston Kayaker, Saco, and Sebec on Upper Mystic Lake. I can see the public beach . . . The public beach on Upper Mystic Lake. Following the shoreline on our right northwards. The lake shore has many informal picnic areas. Looking to my left, the rest of the lake. Sail boat on Upper Mystic Lake. Entering the northern narrow section of the lake, the Winchester Boat Club marina on sight. A couple of kayakers. Ahead is the Mystic Valley Parkway bridge. The mouth of Aberjona River flowing into Upper Mystic Lake. Entering the Aberjona River from under the Mystic Valley Parkway bridge. Paddling upstream on the Aberjona River. Just a short distance is the MBTA rail bridge and it just happens a train is passing. Paddling under then past the railbridge. Bacon Street bridge next. Continuing on Aberjona River . . . A footbridge over the Aberjona River. On the right bank are the street lights on Mystic Valley Parkway. Coming up is the Waterfield Road bridge. Paddling under the Waterfield Road bridge over the Aberjona River. In front of us now is Main Street Bridge. And behind that the bottom of Mill Pond Dam and source of the Aberjona River. Just turned around and now paddling downstream on the Aberjona River passing again under this Waterfield Street bridge. The Mystic Valley Parkway street lights now on left. Paddling under the Bacon Street bridge again. Mystic Valley Parkway bridge where Aberjona River ends. Now back to Upper Mystic Lake. Water-front houses. Winchester Boat Club marina. Sailboats on Upper Mystic Lake. Directly ahead is the Bacow Sailing Pavilion and the public boat ramp where we came from. A swimmer on Upper Mystic Lake.
