Kayaking on Westport River East Branch - in Westport MA Rating: Two Stars - From the put in across Osprey Sea Kayak, the Westport River East Branch is flowing fast on a canal, slowly meandearing and later opens up and widens into the estuary scenery. Nice river-front houses. I started my trip about 2-and-a-half hours before low tide so the tide was receding mostly except for the last half-hour of my 3-hour trip. By the time I got under the Route 88 bridge, the tide is rising and and the river is flowing north under the bridge.   Put in at Drift Road   in Westport MA. Take out at John Reed Road /   Route 88 bridge in Westport MA. Estimated distance   = 8 miles Horseneck Beach   State Reservation   Alternate put in / take   out at Hixbridge ramp. Osprey Sea Kayak - rentals   and guided tours Best to paddle when   tide is receding.
