Kayaking on Mashapaug Lake - at Bigelow Hollow State Park in Union CT Rating: Two-and-a-Half Stars - There is a stiff per vehicle fee of $15 for non-CT plates. That aside, this is a goud kayak route, and can be combined with swimming, hiking and picnicking opportunities for families/groups. The water are clean and clear. I will make sure I swim the next time here.   Put in at boat ramp in Bigelow   Hollow State Park in Union CT. Paddle around Lake   Mashapaug and return. Estimated round trip   distance = 4+ miles Bigelow Hollow   State Park   "Mashapaug" is the Nipmuck   Indian word for "great pond". Can hike to northern   beaches and picnic areas. Around this island are signs: "PRIVATE PROPERTY" Another side of the island clearly marked "private property". Here is a teeni-winnie island that is also marked "private property". This island has retaing walls, No man is an island. But this house is! Lake Mashapaug Dam. I was on the water for a little over an hour.
