The Great Herring Pond launch area on Little Sandy Pond Road. The Boston Kayaker ready to launch on Great Herring Pond in Plymouth MA. Just launched on Great Herring Pond. Veering to my right, will paddle Great Herring Pond counter-clockwise. Paddling north and will keep the eastern shore on my right. A kayak fisherman returning. A powered boat making splash on Great Herring Pond. Looking to my left, the western shore of Great Herring Pond. Very nice luxurious waterfront house. Continuing northwards, past these trees on right will be another cove. Just rounded that jutting peninsula. The first of the coves on the east side of Great Herring Pond. I will cut corners in my paddling and cut out this cove. Will paddle straight ahead. After this tree on my right will be the last cove on the northeast end of Great Herring Pond. On my left is the northeastern cove. Will cut corners again and will paddle straight to the northern shore and skip this cove on my left. Now approaching the northern coast and will veer left to continue the counter-clockwise direction. Now hugging the northern coast on my right. Great Herring Pond viewed from the north end. This stretch of beach with a picnic bench has the big sign "Private Property". I am now on the northwest corner and now paddling southwards with the western shore on my right. Continuing my southward paddle hugging the western shore on my right. Briefly looking to my left, the eastern shore. Perhaps these sailboats just closed off for the season. The Boston Kayaker is still in season. :) Landed. I was on Great Herring Pond for 1 hour and 20 minutes. |
